Go Team GB!!!

runner

Well, well, well.  I don’t know about you but I have thoroughly enjoyed the Rio Olympics. My main gripe is that it was over way too quickly!  And didn’t team GB do well!  Loads of medals.  Just to show I know what I am talking about: 27 gold medals; 23 silver medals and 17 bronze medals.  We came second in the medals table to the USA!  Great stuff, we even did better than we did in the London 2012 Olympics.

Now then, what has any of this got to do with all things writing?  Well, like any Olympian you have to train very hard to be successful.  You don’t wake up one morning and win the 100 metre race or anything like that.  It takes hard work, commitment, dedication and lots self-belief. It sounds a lot like writing doesn’t it? Well you are right. It’s a lot like writing. So how is it all going? I hope  you are managing something.  If you are writing a novel, then maybe you have completed another chapter.

The way I see it, it’s summer and in London it’s usually very quiet.  If you are not one of the many people who are getting away on a vacation then this is a good time to start planning and writing.  Do you know that if you are a short story writer and you want to submit something with a Christmas theme to for example People’s Friend, or Women’s Weeklythen now is a good time.  Most magazines like at least three months, sometimes six, to consider your story.

Just remember this; if an athlete collects medals when they win, then us writer types will collect book and magazine deals. So get writing and become a winner just like team GB. Good luck.

Until next time, happy writing, S
